Engineering (ISO 9001:2000 Certified)

FilterSense engineering specializes in ultra-low-level, low-noise instrumentation design and innovative controller hardware/firmware development utilizing 32-bit Digital Signal Processors (DSP) micro-controllers from Texas Instruments (TI) and TI’s associated firmware tools such as Code Composer for embedded systems development. DSP technology is enabling significant advancements with FilterSense sensing and diagnostic technologies. FilterSense engineering also specializes in designing products to withstand harsh physical environments and to perform reliably in the electrically noisy environments found in processing plants. The engineering department also oversees the company’s field applications personnel and startup staff providing hands-on interaction with product in operation and ensuring high quality customer support.

All FilterSense products are conceptualized and designed in-house utilizing the latest development tools. For electronic circuit development, we employ circuit simulation applications such as Multisim and Matlab to verify designs and to identify possible errors before they propagate further through the product development process and for interactive simulation shortening time-to-market. Design for manufacturing is aided by circuit board layout software such as OrCAD. Mechanical design and fabrication is aided by 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks.

Programming skills include C, C++, visual basic, and programming of leading process control PLCs and HMI/SCADA software from Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Modicon, Wonderware, Intellution, and more.

Engineering Design Standards include the following as a minimum. Specific customer requirements can be provided and approved by a third party such as CSA, FM or UL.

  • PC board design:  IEC 60079-15
  • PC board fabrication:  FR4 fiberglass base, 1oz copper cladding minimum, SR1000 blue solder mask and white silkscreen, UL94-V0 flammability rating, electrically test each fabrication fully before assembly.
  • PC board assembly manufacturing:  IPC-610C or latest rev
  • Control panel electrical design and wiring:  NFPA 79 (UL 508A)
  • Product design:  IEC61010-1, ISA S82.02.01
